February 4, 2022 - Exodus 14:10-12
“As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord, and they said to Moses, “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt? Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’”” Exodus 14:10-12 NLT
Lord, we ask that you grow our trust in you so that when we come up against obstacles in our lives we don’t freak out. You had just brough the Israelites out of Egypt in such a miraculous way. They saw you do some crazy miracles that should have showed them that you can make a way in the impossible situations. But when they came up against the Red Sea, they felt hopelessness. They complained and wanted to go back to what they were familiar with. It is easy to judge their actions, but how often do we not believe in you and want to go back to the familiar?
Lord, we don’t want to go back to our places of slavery. You have set us free. Just because you set us free doesn’t mean that it will be easy. We will have to trust you to get us through the obstacles. We will have to overcome what might seem to be impossible situations. We will have to face enemies. But if we put our trust in you, you will take us in to occupy our promised land.
Lord, teach us how to trust you when things don’t go like we expect. Help us to trust you when suddenly we come up on the impossible situations in our lives. When we start to freak out, remind us of the Israelites standing at the Red Sea and stir up our faith in you. We praise you that we can trust you always. Please remind us of that when we need to remember.
In Jesus name, amen.
