February 28, 2024 - Matthew 14:19-21
“Then he had everyone sit down on the grass and he then took the five loaves and two fish. He looked up into heaven, gave thanks to God, and broke the bread into pieces. He then gave it to his disciples, who in turn gave it to the crowds. And everyone ate until they were satisfied, for the food was multiplied in front of their eyes! They picked up the leftovers and filled up twelve baskets full! There were about five thousand men who were fed, in addition to many women and children!” Matthew 14:19-21 TPT
Jesus, as I read this, I notice that you gave thanks for the inadequacy that you had. It was after giving thanks for the inadequacy that the miracle could happen. If when the disciples went around looking for food, they came back with enough to feed everyone, then the miracle would not have been needed. Our faith would not have been challenged and inspired. It was because of the lack that a miracle was required. Your glory was spread because of this inadequacy.
Help us to look at our inadequacies as opportunities for a miracle instead of a roadblock. Teach us how to thank you for how you will use our lack for a miracle even when we have no idea how it will happen. Let us learn to be excited when we are insufficient. We want to be like an excited child on Christmas morning - we just can’t wait to see what miracle you will do. Grow our faith so that it rises and overpowers any fear, uncertainty, or discouragement that the inadequacy would like to create. Forgive us for times where those have been our primary responses.
Lord, we place our inadequacies at your feet and look at you expectantly to see what you will do. We thank you for the opportunity that they create for you to come through and get all the glory. Thank you that when we cannot, that you step up and say, “I can.” We praise you for the miracles that you have in the works.
In Jesus name, amen.
