“For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.” Hebrews 13:14 NLT
Lord, we praise you that there is so much more to come. Our life here is just a tiny blip compared to all eternity. Help us not to get overwhelmed and sucked under with all the pressures of this world. Help us keep our perspective aligned with you. Remind us of what really matters and what doesn’t. Our mission isn’t to build a grand kingdom for ourselves here. It isn’t to complete a bucket list or see our earthly dreams come true. Our mission is to learn to love you with all we are, learn to be loving to our neighbors, and to bring as many people as possible with us to heaven. Our mission is about you and others, not ourselves.
Lord, we know that it isn’t a bad thing to gain possessions or see dreams fulfilled here on earth, you often bless people with those things here. They just can’t be our main mission. Open our eyes to any place where we have gotten our lives focused on the wrong mission. Forgive us and realign us to your purposes.
Lord, give each of us a greater heart for the lost. We don’t want anyone to be left out of spending eternity with you. Show us how to love people better. Show us how to be a better example of you. Give us the boldness to evangelize. Show us how to pray for the lost – both those we know and the lost around the globe. Increase our desire to spend time investing in praying for them. Show us how to invest our resources – our time, giftings, and money – toward spreading your Gospel around the earth. If we can’t go to the ends of the earth, show us who we can help send. Show us what our specific role is in taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Lord, we can’t wait until we get to heaven and get to meet all the people that we helped get there! What an amazing moment that will be!
