February 26, 2025 - Luke 7:47
“Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” Luke 7:47 ESV
Lord, this verse is often the case. If someone knows that they have a lot of sin to be forgiven and see you transform their life, they are often very grateful and their love for you is large. Yet, if someone feels they have been mostly good, they might be grateful to you for your forgiveness, but their love for you likely will not be as big as the former person. Yet, to you sin in sin. You don’t rate some things as harder to forgive or costing you more to forgive. No, you forgive it all equally. And your word says we all have sinned. Some sins might be more visible and have greater consequences than others, but even the person who has lived a fairly “good” life without your forgiveness, will spend eternity in hell alongside the “worst sinners”.
Holy Spirit, give us a greater understanding of the price Jesus paid for our sin. Help us see that we have all been forgiven of much. Open our eyes to how great the cost was that he paid for our personal sins. Help us see how enormous his love is for us. Let it break our heart until we overflow with gratefulness. Allow this process to let our love for Jesus deepen and grow. Let this give us a hatred for allowing sin in our lives. Open our eyes to the sin that we walk in and are not even aware of. Help align our lives to your ways. Help us live in a way that demonstrates our deep love for you and that brings honor to you in all we do.
In Jesus name, amen.
