February 23, 2024 - Psalms 39:4-5
““Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” Psalms 39:4-5 NLT
Lord, what a good reminder. Please remind us of this anytime that we are getting too wrapped up in things that really don’t matter. Forgive us for the time and energy that we waste on things that hold no real value to us, to you, or in eternity. Remind us that our days here are brief and the purpose is for us to prepare for our real life in eternity. It is not about building our kingdom here; it is about building your kingdom here, so as many people as possible will get to spend eternity in your kingdom with you.
Our comfort here should not be our highest priority. Show us things in our lives that we have placed too high a value on. Show us things that we have based on this world’s value system and not eternity’s value system. Help us reprioritize anything in our lives that you say is out of order. Give us a mindset that is based on your Kingdom.
Help us learn to live each day without any regrets. We want to live as if it could be our last day. We want to love like it is our last chance. We want to choose joy knowing we don’t have time to waste moping. We want to speak your truth like we will never get another opportunity. We don’t want to waste another moment living in fear of man but want to walk boldly in the identity you have given us. We want to say no to sin and not waste one second of our precious time on something that destroys and steals life from us. Lord, anytime we find ourselves stuck in one of the negative places, remind us of this verse and give us the strength to make the choice to live every moment you give us to honor you.
In Jesus name, amen.
