February 21, 2025 - 2 Timothy 2:19
“But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.”” 2 Timothy 2:19 NLT
Lord, we praise you for your truth. How wonderful that it stands firm regardless of how time and culture changes, regardless of what our circumstances look like, and regardless of how we feel. None of these things or anything else changes your truth. And you are unchanging too, so you will never change your mind on something that you have stated as your truth. Your truth stands as a firm foundation that we can build our lives upon and trust it to remain solid.
Lord, we also praise you for the two truths that Paul is highlighting in this verse to Timothy. How wonderful to know that you know every human who belongs to you. Paul also makes it clear that to belong to him means that we turn away from evil. Those who choose to run towards evil don’t really belong to you. That doesn’t mean that we will never sin again, but if we really belong to you, then we will hate the things that bring you pain. When we do find ourselves back in a place we didn’t want to be in, we will run back to you, repent and allow you to change us. We will seek your help to overcome the sin that wants to ensnare us. We will pursue knowing you and do all we can to keep ourselves out of situations where we find ourselves easily tempted. Help us to always run towards you and away from evil. Let these two truths be inscribed on our lives.
In Jesus name, amen.
