February 21, 2023 - Exodus 14:10-12
“As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord, and they said to Moses, “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt? Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’”” Exodus 14:10-12 NLT
Lord, knowing this whole story, we can wonder where Israel’s faith is? They just witnessed you do so many miracles so that Pharaoh would let them go. We can read this and go, “How could they doubt, if you made a way for them to get this far?”, or “Why can’t they still believe that you can deliver them now that Egypt is still coming after them?” They just looked at the situation in front of them and panicked. They would rather live as slaves than trust in your promises to them. Lord, as I read this, I wonder how often do you find us in the same place? Please forgive us for judging them and forgive us for our lack of faith in you. We have seen you do so many amazing things in our lives. You have provided for us, done the impossible, and blessed us abundantly again and again. You have made so many amazing promises to us that I know you will fulfill. Yet, if we take an honest look at our lives, I bet we can quickly find areas where we are fretting.
Lord, forgive us for our lack of faith and for worrying over situations we face instead of handing them over to you and trusting you to make a way. Lord, even if the situations in front of us look completely impossible, just like it did for the Israelites, help us remember that nothing is impossible for you. Help us praise you and wait expectantly.
In Jesus name, amen.
