“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41 ESV
Jesus, help us to take your Words here to heart and learn to live in them. It is very easy to agree that our spirit very often wants to walk in your ways, but then our flesh’s weakness draws us into the things that we don’t want to do. Thank you for giving us a key here to making a change to that behavior. Teach us how to watch and pray. We want to learn to live our lives with you all the time. We don’t want to just think of you only a few times a day, when we have our devotions or pray before a meal. No, we want to invite you into all that we do. We want you to be continually on our mind and learn to always be in conversation with you. Holy Spirit, train us to always be watching and praying. Open our eyes to see God all around us. Help us visualize you as a person who is always in the room with us wanting to do all things with us. As we learn to walk in that kind of relationship with you, I know that dealing with temptation will change. Our desires will change from wanting more of what makes our flesh feel good, sin, to running from anything that causes you pain or puts distance between us. Keep doing your work in us and draw us closer to you. Let us be people who understand how to stand with you, watching and praying.
In Jesus name, amen.
