“Tell me, you whom I love, where you graze your flock and where you rest your sheep at midday. Why should I be like a veiled woman beside the flocks of your friends?” Song of Songs 1:7 NIV
Lord, you are the lover of our souls. There is no one that will ever come close to loving us like you love us. Your love is perfect and complete. You long for us to come to you and spend time with you. Just like when we are in love with another human, we find ways to be near them and spend time in their presence, you feel that way about us. Lord, we want to come to you and spend time with you. The more time we spend in your presence, the more we will fall in love with you, and then the more time we want to spend with you. It is a beautiful cycle, but this cycle begins with us making time to sit with you. Help us to truly come and sit with you. We don’t want to always come with an agenda. We do need to take time to intercede for the world and people in it, but we don’t want to always come before you with a list of prayers. Teach us how to come and rest in your presence. We want to come, quiet our minds, and just dwell in your presence. We want to lean against your chest and hear your heartbeat. We want to listen to what you have to say and get more and more familiar with your voice.
Let the words of Solomon in this verse be a prayer that we pray daily. Let us call out to you and find out where you are so we can find that resting place with you. On days that we just don’t have a lot of time, help us figure out how to carve out at least a few minutes to silence ourselves in your presence and rest with you. Time with you is more valuable than anything else we can fill our time with. Show us what we are wasting time on that we need to quit so we can find more time with you. Stir our hearts and let us yearn to find these precious moments with you.
In Jesus name, amen.
