December 5, 2022 - 1 Timothy 4:1, 7-8
“Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons. Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly. Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” 1 Timothy 4:1, 7-8 NLT
Lord, we understand that just like getting fit physically takes both discipline and training, getting fit spiritually also takes the same. Neither happens by doing nothing. Teach us what it means to be spiritually fit. We want to be in your word so that we know it and have it stored away in our hearts. We want to spend time with you so that we know you. We don’t just want to know about you, but we want to know you like we know our closest friend. We want to know your voice and understand what you are saying. We want to be able to discern what you are going to do or say even before you say it. We want to be the type of friend that you can trust to share your secrets with and help carry your burdens. We want to be people who know, understand, and live out your kingdom ways. Let us be people whose lives are full of the evidence of the fruits of the Spirit. I believe all these things are a part of being spiritually fit. Lord, we know to see the evidence of these things in our lives takes time spent with you, time in your word, and purposefully examining how we live our lives, being sure to make the needed changes.
Lord, I believe if we are doing those things, we will find that it is much harder for the Devil to be able to deceive us. Help us rearrange the priorities in our lives so that we are purposeful on becoming spiritually fit. Show each of us what it is that we need to do to begin this journey.
In Jesus name, amen.
