December 31, 2021 - Genesis 11:4
“Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves;”” Genesis 11:4 NIV
Lord, help us to never be like the people building the Tower of Babel. We want you to approve of us more than we want to make a name for ourselves here on earth. We want to be deeply known by you and heaven, more than by man. Help us not to rely on our giftings, talents, or even our anointing to make ourselves known or to find our fulfillment. Help us learn to never pursue acknowledgment from anyone but you, God. Help our pursuit always be for more of your presence. Let our lives be about bringing a beautiful and pure offering to you. We bow before you and we throw our crowns - all our accomplishments - at your feet. All the glory goes to you.
We don’t even want our lives to fit into a good Christian box so that we can gain the approval of other Christians. No, we want our lives to be about gaining more of you. Even if that makes things look messy and doesn’t fit in “the box”. We willingly break our alabaster box and wash your feet with our hair and tears. We will do whatever it takes to find more of you, Lord. Let our lives be all about ministering to you.
Lord, open our eyes to any idols that we have constructed in our lives, in the name of following you, that have replaced you. We give you permission to tear them down and destroy them. Forgive us and have mercy on us. We do not want to place anything above you, our Lord. Jesus, we want to be your pure bride who only has eyes for you. Holy Spirit, come. Move us. Draw us closer. Fill us. Prepare us. Purify us. Make us more like you in all we are and all we do. Help us fall more in love so that you are all we want. Help us to always have your approval in all that we do. For you, our Lord, are worthy and we give you all the glory.
In Jesus name, amen.
