December 24, 2024 - Luke 2:8-12
“That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”” Luke 2:8-12 NLT
What great Good News you are, Jesus! You are the best news that was ever brought to earth or ever will be brought to earth. Jesus, your coming brought hope and salvation to all humanity. The angels might have proclaimed this news first, but it is news that still needs to be proclaimed from the rooftops until everyone has heard. As we celebrate Christmas, let us always keep close to our heart what it is that we are really celebrating. In the business of visiting with friends and family, in the fun of exchanging gifts and feasting on seasonal delights, don’t let us overlook the amazing Good News that Christmas is meant to celebrate. Show us how to not merely offer “Merry Christmas” greetings to those we pass, but like the angels let us declare your Good News. It is not news that should be kept to ourselves. Christmas is the perfect open door to talk about your great love for us. Provide us with open doors to share with people what your coming to earth really means for each of us.
Lord, there are so many people who are lost and hurting and are desperate to hear this Good News. They need to understand the significance of what you did specifically for them. Give us eyes to see them and courage to share your amazing Good News with them.
In Jesus name, amen.
