December 24, 2023 - Psalms 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalms 46:10 NLT
Lord, the “be still and know” part of this verse can be such a challenge any time of year, but with the busyness that this time of year brings, it can seem impossible. Help us to find the time to stop and be still. You are the reason for the season. This isn’t just a nice sounding slogan, but it is truth. We want to celebrate you in a way that brings you happiness and joy. The thing that you long for the most is for each of us to be still before you. To come and sit in your presence and take the time to really get to know you. You don’t want us to just know about you, but you want us to deeply know you. That doesn’t just happen by accident. It doesn’t happen by attending church once or twice a week. It doesn’t even happen by quickly running through our quiet time “checklist” every day. It comes by spending time with you. Talking to you and listening to you. It comes from fellowshipping with you. It requires us to learn to be still and listen to your voice. Oh, Lord, that is so hard on many levels and for many reasons. It costs us something. Help us find the time today to “be still and know”. Teach us how to quiet our minds and listen. Increase our ability to learn to hear your voice.
Lord, we praise you that you are the Almighty God. You are worthy of all praise. We want to not only bring you the honor you deserve ourselves, but we want to make your name known so that others can bring you honor as well. We want to do our part to make sure your name reaches throughout the world to every nation. This Christmas, let our gift to you not only be to sit still in your presence, but we ask for you to show us how we can bless you by doing something that will intentionally spread your name to an unreached part of the world.
In Jesus name, amen.
