December 20, 2022 - Mark 6:2-3
“The next Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. They asked, “Where did he get all this wisdom and the power to perform such miracles?” Then they scoffed, “He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us.” Mark 6:2-3 NLT
Jesus, you were known as a carpenter because you were a carpenter. I am sure you started learning the skill from Joseph as a child and that was what you did until you were 30 years old. Of course, people knew you as being a carpenter. We don’t often think of you as a carpenter, but as Savior, healer, the Son of God, or something of the like. We know you were a carpenter, but that is just something we brush over quickly. The reality is that you spent the majority of your life as a carpenter. You as the Son of God had to wait for the right time to become the Savior of the world. You spent probably close to 20 years working as a carpenter before you were ready, and God had things in order to release you to do what you were called to do. Then you spent only 3 years living in your full calling. Wow, help us learn from that.
God, we can become so impatient with the process. But you are so big on the process. You will not rush things because of our impatience. When we rush things and dive in before the proper timing, it almost always never works out like we want it to. Help us to trust you even if it takes years of doing something we feel is mundane. Even when we know that we are created for something more, help us keep pressing in where you have us until we are released by you into the more. Help us not to delay the process because we have a bad attitude. Help us to press into you and work on learning all that we can in that place. Jesus, help us remember that you understand and there is purpose in it.
In Jesus name, amen.
