December 14, 2022 - Galatians 6:1-2
“Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:1-2 NLT
Lord, we want to support our fellow believers. Help us live in a way that we both help bear their burdens and push them closer to you. Give us your heart for them and allow us to love one another like you love us. Part of loving is wanting to see them live their best life. Living our best life only comes when we live in your Kingdom ways and live a life of pursuing you. Ignoring sin in our lives, as well as in our brothers and sisters’ lives, is not the most loving thing. Teach us how to press into correcting things in a loving and inspiring way, not in a condescending, hurtful, or condemning way. We want to build people up and inspire them to change their behavior and not tear them down and make them feel shame or like a failure. Also help us seek you first to know the best way and the best timing to address something.
Lord, we also ask that you help us walk humbly and accept correction well. This must be a two-way road for us and our fellow believers to walk in unity. We don’t want to be the person pointing out the speck in someone else’s eye when we have a log in our own. Even when correction is not given in the most loving way, help us receive it gracefully with humility. Others can often see our sins in a way that we don’t see them. Help us not to be quick to dismiss correction we don’t think applies to us. We want to bring it before you with an open heart and ask you to show us if there is anything that we need to change. Help us so desire holiness in our lives that we seek out others’ insights into how we are living.
In Jesus name, amen.
