August 30, 2022 - John 17:20-23
““And I ask not only for these disciples, but also for all those who will one day believe in me through their message. I pray for them all to be joined together as one even as you and I, Father, are joined together as one. I pray for them to become one with us so that the world will recognize that you sent me. For the very glory you have given to me I have given them so that they will be joined together as one and experience the same unity that we enjoy. You live fully in me and now I live fully in them so that they will experience perfect unity, and the world will be convinced that you have sent me, for they will see that you love each one of them with the same passionate love that you have for me.” John 17:20-23 TPT
Jesus, this prayer clearly states that it was not only prayed for your disciples standing there with you at the time, but for those who will one day stand with you. That is us. You prayed this prayer over us. Thank you. Six times in these four verses you mention being joined together or being in unity with you. Please let us hear the importance of this. You are saying here that we can be united with the Father like you were when you walked on earth. Verse 23 says that the Father loves us with the same passionate love that he loves you. Wow. We are not seen as less than you. We have truly been made one with you.
Jesus, we want to walk in this unity with you, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. Draw us closer. We can see that it was through your unity with the Father and Holy Spirit that you were able to make such a massive and lasting impact on mankind. Here you tell us that if we walk in that same glory and unity, the world will see that in us too. We can also radically change our world. Yes, Lord, we want to make your name known everywhere you send us. Teach us the path we need to walk to be in that level of unity.
In Jesus name, amen.
