August 27, 2023 - 2 Samuel 22:2-3

“He sang: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. He is my refuge, my savior, the one who saves me from violence.” 2 Samuel 22:2-3 NLT

Lord, I thank you so much for being our defender. We don’t have to watch our backs. We don’t have to worry when the enemy seems to be surrounding us. No, you are our fortress and defender. We can rest in that fact.

We pray that you would help us learn to understand what that really means. When we are under attack, let us learn how to stay at rest. Let us learn to take the humble road. Help us learn to not fight back unless under your instruction. Help us learn to leave it in your hands to defend us. Teach us to keep our mouth shut and not dig ourselves into deeper trouble. That is where we often end up when we try to defend ourselves without you. Forgive us for the times when we don’t wait on you.

Also, forgive us for the times when we have gotten frustrated or mad at you when you didn’t come through and defend us the way we thought you should have. We declare even in those times you were there, and you were loving us. Even when we were hurt, your heart was breaking for us. There was a reason you allowed the hurt and just because we didn’t see the defense at the moment, doesn’t mean you didn’t defend us. We declare that we trust you even in those moments.

We praise you, King Jesus. All praise to you. All glory to you. We praise you for being our defender, our fortress, and our strong tower. You are our shield and protection. You have saved us more times than we’ll ever know about here on earth. We thank you for that. Thank you for your love and your saving power. Glory to you, our Savior, forever.

In Jesus name, amen.
