The Battle – Prayer #12
“But the LORD said to Joshua, “I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors. On the seventh day the Israelites got up at dawn and marched around the town as they had done before. But this time they went around the town seven times. The seventh time around, as the priests sounded the long blast on their horns, Joshua commanded the people, “Shout! For the LORD has given you the town! When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it.” Joshua 6:2, 15-16, 20 NLT
Lord, we understand one key thing for winning any battle is to walk in obedience to what you tell us. Your way of fighting battles often doesn’t look like we would normally fight a battle. We want to learn to trust you regardless of what the situation looks like and regardless of what you ask us to do. As Israel went to take the city of Jericho, you gave them some interesting instructions. I am sure some of them were questioning what this was accomplishing. They probably thought that they looked like fools to the people of Jericho. But they walked in obedience.
Lord, praise is another key thing that brings the victory. The Israelites followed your instructions and on the 7thday, when the horns blew, the people lifted their praise to you. At that moment the walls completely collapsed. They praised you for the victory, even though they could not see it and nothing they had done in the natural made it look like they had won the victory. But the moment they started praising you for the answer, you brought the walls down and provided the victory. Teach us to be people who praise the victories we need in our lives into existence. Let our obedience and our praise bring down the walls we face.
In Jesus name, amen.
