The Battle – Prayer #8
“and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” Ephesians 6:17b AMP
Lord, we are so grateful for your Word. This piece of armor is more than just a gift from you, it is truly You, the all-powerful God of the Universe, here with us. It is also our only offensive weapon. Jesus, it was what you chose to defeat Satan with when you were in the wilderness, so then we know we can also count on it to defeat him. It is a two-edged weapon that is living and powerful. The key is to know how to correctly wield it if we want it to be an effective weapon. Like with any weapon in the natural world, if you want to be an expert in using it, it takes work. We will have to practice for hours to be considered skillful in its use. To be skillful in your Word, we need to spend time reading, studying, and memorizing it. Help us understand the importance of doing these things so that we know how to use it when we need it. A single verse can push back the enemy when he attacks, but to do that effectively we must know what we have in our arsenal.
Holy Spirit, it says that this is your Sword. We ask that you give us your insights on how to use it in the most effective manner. Open our eyes and reveal yourself to us as we read. Increase our discernment to recognize when Satan tries to twist Scripture to confuse us. Help us to put the verses we read in context and understand what you were really trying to say to us. Help us understand how to apply it to our lives today and walk it out. Help us as we work to bury it deep in our hearts and memorize it. Help us always be ready at any given moment to recall the verse that we need.
It is so important that we don’t only put on our armor to protect ourselves, but that we join the battle that is before us as skilled warriors. Grow us into expert swordsmen and exceptional warriors for your kingdom.
