August 21, 2023 - 1 Samuel 17:32-37
“Don’t worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I’ll go fight him!” “Don’t be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There’s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been a man of war since his youth.” But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God! The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!” 1 Samuel 17:32-37 NLT
Lord, let our trust be so strong in you that fear, doubt, and worry never dictate our actions. Let us walk up to the battle with just a matter-of-fact attitude of we can and will be victorious because you are with us. Grow our faith like you did with David - starting off with the small things and moving up to the lions and bears, then up to the Goliaths, then to the armies and nations.
Lord, make our hearts more like David’s. When he came on the scene, he couldn’t believe that everyone was just sitting around allowing this pagan Philistine to defy your army. He didn’t see a giant that could not be defeated. He saw an injustice that needed to be dealt with. He saw the situation through eyes of faith.
When we see injustice let something rise within us that makes us say, “this must stop, and I will bring an end to it.” Let us trust that you will use us even if the task before us is giant and everyone else has cowered away from it. Give us the faith to believe you will use us to change the situation. Praise you for desiring to use us to do the impossible.
In Jesus name, amen.
