August 13, 2024 - Luke 6:22-23
“What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man. When that happens, be happy! Yes, leap for joy! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, their ancestors treated the ancient prophets that same way.” Luke 6:22-23 NLT
Lord, as we read this verse it can seem so matter of fact. We know that we are not the only people to be hated or mocked because of our belief in you. Honestly, what we face is probably not much compared to what you faced and so many of your other followers have faced. Yet, even knowing this and even desiring to stand strong in you regardless of what we face, it can be so hard in the moment. In moments when we know speaking up or doing the right thing will cause someone to judge us, treat us differently, or cause us to lose some of our status, it can be really hard. Lord, I would question where my value is truly placed if I am having a hard time with this. Am I really seeking man’s approval or yours? Is my foundation placed in my status, my family, my job, or whatever else it may cause me to lose, or is it in you?
Lord, open our eyes to these things. Help us know how to always consider it joy when we stand up for you and your ways, regardless of what it might cost us. Help us remember that we are not the only people in this situation. You endured persecution for us, help us endure it for you.
In Jesus name, amen.
