August 13, 2022 - Judges 7:2, 7, 9, 16, 20-22a
The LORD said to Gideon, “You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength. The LORD told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.” That night the LORD said, “Get up! Go down into the Midianite camp, for I have given you victory over them!” He divided the 300 men into three groups and gave each man a ram’s horn and a clay jar with a torch in it. Then all three groups blew their horns and broke their jars. They held the blazing torches in their left hands and the horns in their right hands, and they all shouted, “A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!” Each man stood at his position around the camp and watched as all the Midianites rushed around in a panic, shouting as they ran to escape…the LORD caused the warriors in the camp to fight against each other with their swords.” Judges 7:2, 7, 9, 16, 20-22a NLT
Lord, you can do anything. You will show your great power over the problems in our life if we give you a chance and have faith. This account of Gideon’s army of 300 is proof. He was going up against 120,000 with 32,000 men. Most of us would say that being outnumbered almost 4 to 1 made an unlikely scenario already, but you wanted to prove your power to them. You wanted the glory. So, you whittled them down to 300. The fact that those 300 men trusted you enough to march up to the army of 120,000 is great faith, but how impossible that looked. Yet, you came through and won the battle in the most unlikely of ways. All praise to you.
Lord, help us learn to walk in obedience no matter how unlikely and crazy what you ask sounds. Your ways are always better than ours. Help us step out in faith and trust you to prove yourself in huge ways, all for your glory.
In Jesus name, amen.
