August 11, 2024 - Exodus 40:9, 12-15
“Take the anointing oil and anoint the Tabernacle and all its furnishings to consecrate them and make them holy. Present Aaron and his sons at the entrance of the Tabernacle, and wash them with water. Dress Aaron with the sacred garments and anoint him, consecrating him to serve me as a priest. Then present his sons and dress them in their tunics. Anoint them as you did their father, so they may also serve me as priests. With their anointing, Aaron’s descendants are set apart for the priesthood forever, from generation to generation.” Exodus 40:9, 12-15 NLT
Lord, so often when we think about or hear teaching on the anointing it is to walk in a greater assignment or calling. We think of David or other kings who were anointed so that they could receive the authority to become King. In the church today, we often pray for you to anoint us so we can walk in your power as we follow you. We ask for a greater anointing so that more lives can be blessed and brought to you through our lives. That is all a good thing, but here we see the first use of anointing oil, its primary purpose. Everything in the temple was anointed so that it would be holy and be able to be in your presence. Aaron and his sons were anointed so that they could enter into your presence.
Lord, we ask today for a greater anointing so that we can enter into your presence. Anoint us so that we can enter into the Holy of Holies and encounter you in deeper ways. Purify us. Lord, we want to see you, and not just once, but we want to receive a fresh anointing each day. We want to be washed pure so that we can sit before you in the Holy of Holies every day. We want so much more of you, our Lord.
In Jesus name, amen.
