April 6, 2023 - Philippians 2:3-4
“Be free from pride-filled opinions, for they will only harm your cherished unity. Don’t allow self-promotion to hide in your hearts, but in authentic humility put others first and view others as more important than yourselves. Abandon every display of selfishness. Possess a greater concern for what matters to others instead of your own interests.” Philippians 2:3-4 TPT
Oh Lord, this verse is such a challenging one. Killing the pride in us, walking in humility, dying to our selfishness, and putting others first are all very uncomfortable things and they don’t tend to come naturally. Please help us accomplish living our lives as this verse says.
We ask that you make our pride like a rotten smell in our noses that disgusts us. Any time it starts to arise in us let us immediately recognize it. Forgive us and give us the strength and wisdom to know how to change any prideful actions into ones of humility. Show us how to protect and cherish unity between us, you, and others.
Lord, also help eliminate self-promotion in us as well. Show us where we are doing things to get attention or to be recognized. Help us work in a way that isn’t to be seen by anyone but you. We trust you to promote us in the best way in your timing.
We also repent for the selfishness in our lives. Help us live life by putting others first. When we do that, you will take care of us and our needs. We thank you for taking care of our needs. You see our hearts and our motives. And you reward us when our motives are pure. You change our circumstances in your perfect timing.
We praise you for always seeing us. We are never overlooked or forgotten. We thank you for your ways and plans in our lives. We commit to walking in humility and faithfulness to you regardless of our circumstances.
