April 4, 2024 - 1 Peter 2:9-10
“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9-10 NLT
Lord, what an incredible privilege to be chosen by you. The way you choose to love us is remarkable. You have called us your royal priests and a holy nation. Help us to learn how to live our lives in a way that reflects these statements as truth. I think of a priest as someone who ministers to others. Show us what it means to be a minister that represents you well. We want to see people the way you see them. Give us your heart for others. Help us see below the surface so that we can minister on a level that reaches the soul. Help us not to go through life in our own bubbles, but be willing to look beyond ourselves to really see the needs of others you have placed around us.
We also ask for you to teach us how to live holy lives. We want everything in our lives to bring you glory. Uproot anything that isn’t holy from our lives. Change our hearts so we will be willing to let go of anything you request, because you are worthy of our everything. Help us desire to live a holy life that is pleasing to you more than we desire to please our flesh.
Lord, let us always choose to live in your light. Help us to walk in the identity that you have given us and not in the identity that our past, upbringing, mistakes, etc. has given us. Purify us so that we stand as a bright and shining light that is a reflection of you to the world around us. We praise you for your mercy that makes it possible for us to live pure and holy lives. We are forever grateful for it.
