April 23, 2023 - Hebrews 4:10
“For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.” Hebrews 4:10 NLT
Lord, would you teach us how to truly rest in you. We want to learn to come and hide in the shelter of your wings, where we are safe and there is no need to be anxious. There we can turn all our worries to you and rest in your peace. We can trust that you have everything under control. We can rest in the knowledge of your love for us, that nothing is beyond your abilities, that you have all authority, and everything answers to you. Even when things don’t turn out like we wanted, we can rest in the fact that you will always be with us. You will comfort us when needed and celebrate with us when the breakthroughs come. You will give us wisdom and guidance for each situation we face. Increase our confidence in these facts to the point that no matter what we face in life, we face it resting in your peace.
Lord, this verse isn’t just talking about our spirits being at rest, but it clearly states we are to take a day to rest. This seems to be an exceedingly hard thing to do in a world that has constant demands of our time. There is always something pulling for our attention; always another task to be completed on our “to do” list. We must learn to take the time to stop and rest. If you saw the importance of taking a day of rest, then how do we think that we can bypass it and be ok? You have commanded this of us because we need it. Please forgive us that for not making it a high priority. Forgive us if we have viewed it as a lesser commandment, that doesn’t apply to us. Help us make it a priority and guard that time. Then help us not fill our Sabbath day with things that won’t give us rest, but to press into you to truly be recharged. Thank you that you are our source of strength, joy, fulfillment, and true rest.
In Jesus name, amen.
