April 2, 2022 - Ezekiel 33:3, 6-9
“When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people. But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their deaths. Now, son of man, I am making you a watchman for the people of Israel. Therefore, listen to what I say and warn them for me. If I announce that some wicked people are sure to die and you fail to tell them to change their ways, then they will die in their sins, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths. But if you warn them to repent and they don’t repent, they will die in their sins, but you will have saved yourself.” Ezekiel 33:3, 6-9 NLT
Lord, we thank you for trusting us enough to make us watchmen. We want to do the job well. Help us stay alert to your voice. When you speak, help us respond quickly. Help us clearly recognize and understand your instructions. Open our eyes to see, our ears to hear, and our minds to understand. We ask for an increase in that ability. To be the best watchmen possible, we must be able to discern what we are seeing and hearing. Holy Spirit, be our constant guide in discernment. Also, teach us how to sound the alarm in a way that people will listen.
Lord, we don’t want to be held responsible for others not hearing the warning, because we didn’t sound the alarm or didn’t sound it in an effective way. Please forgive us for the ways that we have messed up in the past. Forgive us for allowing things to keep us from sounding the alarm such as: passivity, allowing fear of man to hold us back, and being too wrapped up in our own things to notice the need to sound the alarm. Destroy those things in our lives and increase our awareness and desire to sound the alarm. Grow our ability to a be the best watchman we can be.
In Jesus name, amen.
