“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7 NLT
Lord, walking in humility is the opposite of what our flesh typically wants. We want to be recognized and exalted when we do something good. We want to push ourselves to be the best so we can get the recognition or award that goes with that. It irks us when someone else gets credit for something we did. It feels good when our flesh is lifted up and praised. Lord, not that it is bad to be congratulated for a job well done, but it can’t be what we are living for or where we get our identity. Teach us how to live for your approval only. We want to do a job well so that we represent you well. We want to not mind doing things even in secret so that we get no glory from it. If someone else gets the credit for something we do, let us not make a big deal about it, but trust you to glorify us when you want. Show us when our prideful flesh is rising up and wanting glory. Forgive us and help us change. Help us always choose to walk the humble road.
Lord, we praise you for how you care for us. You are such a loving God. We count it an honor to be your servants. Help us learn to fully trust you. When we take the humble road instead of pushing ourselves forward, help us trust that you will honor that action. Also, show us what it means to be humble and meek. That doesn’t mean that we are not strong or that we are a pushover. It means that we use our strength to walk humbly. We use our strength to walk in trust and faith. We have no reason to worry. You will work it all out when we are walking in your ways. You will not forsake the righteous. Lord, you are worthy of our everything. Help us live to be your humble servants.
In Jesus name, amen.
