“Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” Matthew 26:53-54 ESV
Jesus, you are so remarkable. The way you love is unbelievable. You knew the cost you were about to pay. It is more than we can fathom. But it was not beyond your understanding. You knew exactly what you were about to do. It wasn’t something that you wanted to endure. You were in the garden wrestling over what needed to be done and the fact your flesh didn’t want this moment to come. You are God and everything must submit to you, if you want it to. With a thought you could have changed this whole scenario. You could have called down legions of angels to defend you. You could have lifted a hand and caused everyone who opposed you to fall dead. You could have said the word and ascended back to the perfection of heaven, where everyone recognizes your authority and worships you, and forgotten all about we humans. We certainly don’t deserve anything you chose to do for us.
You could have done any or all these things but refrained because of your marvelous love for us. For us, the unfaithful sinners who deserved to die the death you were choosing to die in our place. Wow. Jesus, how can we not love you? How can we not worship you above everything else? How can we not care more about what you ask of us, than what the world thinks of us? How can we not say a resounding “Yes” to anything you ask of us? We surrender our all to you. We declare our love for you. We worship you for your love. We praise you that you chose to pay our ransom, so that we could walk in freedom. All praise, all glory, and all honor be to your name for all eternity.
In Jesus name, amen.
