“for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible.” Leviticus 17:11 NLT
Jesus, as I read this verse, I am reminded of your precious blood that was shed for us. Back when you were giving these instructions to Moses, you knew that the shedding of animal’s blood on the altar was only a partial and temporary “fix”. We needed truly pure blood to purify us. The sin we walk in brings death. The animal blood given on the altar represented life and was given in exchange for the death in us. But it wasn’t fully sufficient. It did enable people to create a place holy enough for you to dwell among your people, but only a handful of people were able to approach your presence. We needed the blood of the giver of life to come and really conquer death. You knew this from the start. You knew we would choose sin and the cost it would require to fully restore us back to true life. Jesus, we thank you for your willingness to give your life in exchange for our sin. We praise you that your pure blood purifies each of us so we can enter into your presence individually. What an amazing blessing. We can never thank you enough for the price that you paid for us. Help us to not ever take that cost for granted. Help us learn to love you the way you love us. All praise be to your name. We love you, Jesus.
In Jesus name, amen.
