“That is why, when Christ came into the world, he said to God, “You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings. But you have given me a body to offer. You were not pleased with burnt offerings or other offerings for sin. Then I said, ‘Look, I have come to do your will, O God— as is written about me in the Scriptures.’”” Hebrews 10:5-7 NLT
Father, we know that your original design was for us to walk in the garden with you. You created us to have a relationship with you and to fellowship with you. You wanted us to live in the abundance of your love and presence in your perfect creation. But we chose sin. We brought death into the perfect picture of life. We destroyed the relationship that you longed to have with us. Our sin separates us from you. Oh, my Lord, why are we so good at choosing sin and death over you and life? How amazing that you don’t give up on us. You still want to have a relationship with us, so much so that you made a temporary fix to partially restore our relationship by the shedding of animal blood on the altar. But this wasn’t a perfect solution. That would require the spotless blood of a human, only because of our sin our blood isn’t spotless. We praise you that your plan all along was to send Jesus to earth as a human to pay the price for our sin. We praise you for how much you wanted to restore our relationship with us and the price you were willing to pay for it. You never wanted sacrifices. You didn’t require those because you wanted them, but because you long to walk in relationship with us again.
Help us to long to walk in relationship with you the way you long for us. Jesus’ death made that possible. We don’t want to let what he did for us not be honored. Help us make our relationship with you our #1 priority in our lives. Let us honor you by getting to know you and by walking with you each day.
In Jesus name, amen.
